The DOL 16 Light Sensor measures light intensity

DOL 16 is a robust light sensor that measures light intensity and is designed specifically for harsh conditions in livestock houses. It can also be used in various industrial applications.

The DOL 16 Light Intensity Sensor is available in two versions: one with a fixed cable and one with an M12 connector/cable. It has two 0-10 V analogue outputs with very low output impedance and full protection against short circuits and cable faults.

The sensor is microprocessor-controlled and has a two-colour LED to indicate operating status and diagnose faults.

Energy savings

Connecting DOL 16 to a lighting control system saves energy by switching lights on only when needed. This achieves the required light intensity with the minimum possible number of lighting hours.

Improve animal welfare

With light-intensity data from the sensor, an effective lighting plan can be set up to improve animal welfare. Broilers need an optimal lighting plan with a regular day-and-night cycle. The ideal amount of light improves animal growth, immunity and mobility. Light levels also affect hens' reproductive cycles and the number of eggs laid.

Furthermore, a study published in the Berlin and Munich Veterinary Weekly shows that maintaining appropriate lighting is considered one of the favourable environmental conditions for preserving pig welfare.

‍EU directives on pig protection specify 40 lux for a minimum of eight hours per day as the minimum light-intensity standard in pig houses. Pigs need enough light to see pen features such as feeders and to communicate with and recognize other pigs. Too much light can affect pigs' vision and lead to stress, increased aggression and weight loss.
